This song was written at the end of the last cold war, Sting had released Russians and Frankie Goes to Hollywood had released Two Tribes. People were getting arrested for protesting at Greenham Common and the future of the world looked very uncertain. Against this backdrop I wrote this song as I felt at the time that we all were living on the edge. When I look back on it, I don’t think that it was as bad then as it is now, but is that just because we got used to trading with Russia? I only know that now I feel that we are back on the edge of war and for sure the only safe people will be those politicians. The rest of us… well let’s not dwell on this. If the unspeakable happens it won’t be just the humans who will be wiped from the earth, but the birds, bees, fish, and animals.

What will be left?

Will they look out on the destruction of the world knowing that their children will have to pay for their actions?

These are the lyrics to my song Living On The Edge.

Verse One
Looks like the fools have done, those madmen finally done it now.
I hear it now!
The siren’s deathly scream, I’m scared we’ve go so little time,
so little time.

Chorus
We are living on the edge, living on the edge of life.
We living on the edge of time.
We are living on the edge, we are waiting on the edge to die.
We’re living on the edge of time.

Verse Two
The darkness soo will come, those politicians they’ll be alright.
They’ll stay alive.
While we the people pay for all the mistakes that they make.
I feel afraid.

Mid
It’s started! We’re now on the edge of time.
And there’s nothing we can do!
We’ve waited! We always knew there’d be a fool
to start the war to end all wars!
To start the war to end all wars!

Chorus
We are living on the edge, living on the edge of life.
We living on the edge of time.
We are living on the edge, we are waiting on the edge to die.
We’re living on the edge of time.
