This song has stayed with me for so many years, I remember playing it live on Magnetic Island in Australia and it being chosen to be on the 404 album produced by Rupert Hine. The arrangement of the song is unashamedly old fashioned. Inspired my songs such as the Charles Aznavour classic “She” Not very Rock’n Roll, but in 1989 it was felt that the song was strong enough to be on the album along with “Shadow of the Gun”, “Foreign Land” etc.

Well, I don’t want to talk with you
I don’t want to hear no excuses
You hurt me more than any other girl
Has ever done before
You sure did make a liar of me
After Josie, swore I’d never feel no pain
The pain she caused me wasn’t half as bad
As what she brought to me

Maybe the fault lies in me
Maybe I’m blind but I cannot see
Why the women in my life
They let me down, they fool around
Why is it always the same old scene
Time after time, well, I just watch them leave
Betrayed again, lied to me, break my heart

No luck in love, no luck at all
No honest woman just to give me some loving
You say you love me, and do this to me
Go on and leave
Go on and tell me I don’t give enough
You always knew that work would take a lot of time
I love you but I cannot take your love
The cost is too much

Maybe the fault lies in me
Maybe I’m blind but I cannot see
Why the women in my life
They let me down, they fool around
Why is it always the same old scene
Time after time, well, I just watch them leave
Betrayed again, they lied to me, break my heart
Betrayed again, they lied to me, break my heart
Betrayed again, lied to me, break my heart
Thanks for watching
